This class is for students who have completed Algebra 2. The course will be paced so that students can develop a deep understanding of key ideas. It covers material typically found in trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus. The course uses hands-on activities, group problem-solving, and computer modeling tools to build understanding. Problems range in difficulty, so that every student is able to work at an appropriate level of challenge. As an AP (advanced placement) course, one of our objectives is preparing students for the AP exam. I believe this is best achieved with engagement and understanding, versus simply trying to teach to the test.
The course content is based on the syllabus covered by the AP curriculum, with supplementary subjects added to provide insight into how the big ideas of calculus were discovered.
Each student will build a Calculus Website.
